I don’t know why either, but there you go. Seems like it would be quite a boomstick, especially if the bullets are explosive or incendiary.

Cops come real quick when you shoot 20 to 30 50 cals at your private backyard range. They don't sound like a regular rifle.

Found out the hard way.

They don’t sound like a regular rifle.

I have more or less an idea on how an AR-15 sounds (though at this point my memory is kinda hazy ) . How does it compare?

An AR-15 sounds like freedom while 50 cal sounds like LIBERTY AND JUSTICE FOR ALL .

Cops got a call that someone was shooting off a can non. We’ve shot alot of stuff there and never had a problem. If that gives you an idea. Granted it was Barret so your results may vary.

Still was fun they'll mess up a railroad tie like you wouldn't believe.

And I’m the dunce that wants to shoot it one-handed. I need bionic upgrades for it. Or send back a Terminator.

Apparently, 50bmg is around 175 decibels. AR is only 150 or so. Suppressed, it drops to 120-130 or so. That’s why suppressors are so nice to have. Sound becomes “oh it’s still loud but it doesn’t rattle my inner ear” sort of loud.

Decibel scale is not linear so 175 is really painful- like double up on  hearing protection sort of loud.

much much much louder.

Assuming 5.56, an AR-15 is more like a “crack! echo echo”. .50 is more like “BOOOOOOOMchapowski! , echo, echo, echo, echo, echo”

I visited a full auto shoot once. I’m shooting my buddies AR-15 prone. Plinking away while everyone around me is blazing away wit h machine guns. I was focused on shooting and didn’t notice who was set up beside me about 6 ft away. Then the dude fired, it was the first time I had ever seen a .50 BMG Barrett fire. That was incredibly startling. Felt the shockwave from the muzzle brake  hit me along with a wave of dirt and bits of grass. Fun time. I couldn’t shoot accurately w ith him blazing away so I took the moment to appreciate his firing. Definitely something else to experience that close.

It’s doable with a Barrett, but A rifle without any recoil management will be a bit  harder to handle.

Nothing some clever engineering can’t solve.

(Then again, I wanted a 2-barrel 50-cal rifle and have the money to see it made, so I would want to have it function exactly the way I want it to.)

Right. I have to dream bigger now. Anti-aircraft levels of bigger.

See I just want a man-portable railgun at this point.

Anti-aircraft you say?

Anzio Ironworks 20mm?

Seems like a whole lot of pressure for a break action to handle .50 caliber rounds with any kind of speed, not to mention that would make long distance accuracy hard to achieve . There’s a reason break actions are usually seen on shotguns and not so much rifles... but I’m not a gunsmith and you do you

For sure. We used railroad ties. Built a box and filled it with sand. Worked great until the Barrett. A few ties needed replacement after this but nothing came out the other side.

Without a muzz le brake? You’ll shoot your eye out arm off!

I’ve put a few slugs through my 12ga. and I can say that it kicks hard. Really hard. I’m not sure how many grains of powder are in a production 12ga shell, but reloaders are using up to 50 grains. Some of the 0.50 cal shells are using over 200 grains. Four times the power without a brake? No thanks!

I mean, you could just get yourself a blackpowder rifle. They’re .50 cal

Kinja'd!!!

Kinja'd!!!

And nobody would think twice because it’s a “muzzle loader like they used in the 1800's”. Granted it’s not a Barret but it will still make a pretty big fucking hole in things.

I kinda feel that way when I take my 308 CETME to the range, granted not anywhere as aloud as a .50 cal but it does fire with some authority.

I remember going to my local Cabela’s and I wanted to see how big a .50BMG round was. When I found the box, it was so worn out from apparently everyone else also opening and closing the box. They're ridiculous. I want to shoot one at some point.

Back when I had a range at my parent’s house my brother in law and I would sometimes set off a pound or two of tannerite for fun. Never had the cops show up, but we did occasionally hear from some friends of ours a mile or two away across the river valley that we made their windows rattle
